Unsure of when she grew up or where she came from, Channing traces her childhood steps across Knoxville, New Hampshire, New York, San Miguel de Allende, Shanghai, Taipei, and Zurich, in alphabetical order. She is interested in how people, places, and communities morph, particularly in the face of technological change. Her preferred media are analogue photography, printmaking, and multi-media collage. Her art is messier than Dijkgraaf's, but her suitcase is neater.
After spending his childhood in Amsterdam and reaching adulthood in the US, Dijkgraaf became interested in community outside the digital world. Whilst being part of Gen Z, Dijkgraaf focuses on how technology is disruptive to society at large. His latest project surrounds the western world’s aspirations for community, which seek to fill the void left by religion. Dijkgraaf is also an avid promoter of Dutch culture in the US.
Aspirations of Community is a multi-media exhibition that highlights the challenges in finding, building, and maintaining community. The focal point is a large-scale collage of incomplete punch cards—such as buy ten coffees get one free— that, on the one hand, capture our collective inability to commit to a community, while, one the other, appreciate the dedication of artists and small businesses to facilitating community. A constant push pull.
More InfoAs I Drew It is a collection of drawings to celebrate moments in anticipation of their end. By the time they're drawn, they're already over.
More InfoGeometries is a series on visual geometry and perspective in the wild. Art surrounds us—architects, nature, people, trash. We observe.
More InfoWhile No One Was Watching is a series of candid portraits, some achieved with self-timer and some of unsuspecting subjects. This project tries to capture who we are when we aren't for the gaze of others.
More InfoA Day in Siglufjörður is a study of a town in renewal. This work explores the mystery and charm of places known to history as one thing (e.g., an industrial fishing hub) and known to those living there now as something completely different. This is an reflection on change, continuity, and community—as seen by outsiders.
